University of Sydney Entry Requirements

sydney entry requirements

Western Sydney University welcomes students from Australia and around the globe, with different entrance requirements depending on each course offered at its campus in Western Sydney.

If you are an older school leaver looking for entry to courses with lower ATAR requirements, the Mature Age Entry Scheme allows entry. This scheme grants entry with less requirements from you.

ATAR

The ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) is a national ranking system used by Australian universities to compare student performance across Australia. Additionally, this score determines eligibility for specific courses and scholarships; understanding its workings is vital in making informed choices regarding your education journey.

Your ATAR is determined by aggregating marks/grades earned in subjects that count towards your school qualification mark. These subjects vary by state: in NSW they count towards your Higher School Certificate (HSC); while Victoria uses assessments that count towards its Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE).

If you repeat a subject, only marks from its last satisfactory attempt will count towards your ATAR. For instance, if you took Biology in 2023 and repeated it again in 2024, only 2024 marks will count towards your ATAR score – this applies equally for extension subjects as well.

IB

Students completing the IB may apply for university admission based on their overall score; this is known as their “combined rank.” To calculate it, tertiary admissions centres around Australia use this schedule which can then determine an application ranking for IB candidates and graduates alike.

IB marks are more holistic than most other exams and systems, taking into account each subject individually to reach an overall result that meets or surpasses expectation. Therefore, students could receive high IB marks from higher level courses but lower marks for standard level subjects while still attaining good overall results.

However, if English was not your primary medium of instruction during secondary or tertiary education, Western Sydney University requires that you show proficiency by passing an approved English test or examination. To do this, take an approved test or examination in English as soon as possible after being admitted.

UAC

At the University of Sydney, some courses require assumed knowledge gleaned through NSW HSC subjects or equivalent study. Students without this background may find it challenging to participate in lectures and tutorials; therefore bridging courses are available to help reach this required level of knowledge.

Before applying to UAC, students should carefully assess their eligibility and meet any necessary course prerequisites before submitting an application. It is also a good idea to consult the website of UAC for important dates.

The iconic Union Aerospace Corporation (UAC) logo seen in the Doom series of video games symbolizes an oppressive corporate world run by Dr. Samuel Hayden Pierce’s Union Aerospace Corporation (UAC). To advance in this universe, advancement involves arcane initiation rituals and branding with demonic tattoos; those who oppose UAC ideology are labeled dissenters and subjected to painful experiments including augmentation. Dr. Samuel Hayden Pierce himself refers to himself as the self-proclaimed “Doom God”, while various containers and walls outfitted by this corporation feature its iconic UAC logo as well.

IDP

An International Driving Permit is mandatory for any Australian travelling abroad and it is strongly advised they obtain one prior to their journey. It contains your driving information in nine different languages and serves as proof of identity when abroad; however it cannot replace domestic driver’s licences as each local authority still requires full compliance with local laws and regulations.

Apply for an IDP online or at your state or territory motoring club. To apply, you will require a valid Australian driver’s licence, passport-sized photo, completed application form and payment for an IDP fee.
